Tax The IRS and
E-filing
More people than ever are clicking the “send” button
to file their taxes. According to the IRS, that number
is increasing yearly. People with tax preparation software that
is user friendly do much of the e-filing. The main advantage
of e-filing, is that the refunds can arrive a lot sooner, and
where direct bank deposit is involved, sometimes up to two weeks
earlier than by paper filing.
There are some great programs such as TaxCut, TurboTax, and
other web based provider programs that help users cut a path
through what is normally a complicated process. There are
some very clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions
on these programs—and this makes the entire process
seed up. E-filing is also bad news for the tax cheats. E-filing
saves the IRS about $2 for processing every electronic return,
and this means that they have more financial resources to
go after those that try and bend the law. This may result
in over a million extra audits each year by the IRS.
Actually, the goal set by Congress is to have all tax refunds
filed somewhere in the 80% range,
And it looks like that goal may very well be reached. This
means that the nation has to get on board and follow the technology
trends. However, there are always going to be a pocket of
people that prefer to forego the e-filing route, and fill
out there forms with pencil and paper. But then, that’s
what freedom is all about. There are times when things may
not go as smoothly with the IRS as hoped, and you may find
yourself on the challenged end of things. That may be the
time to work with the experts that can mediate payments or
settlements with the IRS. That’s when spending the change
to hire an experienced attorney might just be the best route
to take—besides, they may save you thousands of dollars
in fees and expenses.
E-filing shows no slowing down anywhere in the near
future. The numbers are rising for both individuals
and small business owners. It stands to reason that one day,
e-filing will be the standard way of filing a tax return.
The rise each year of those filing from a home computer is
almost at the 20% mark, and that means that a lot of e-filing
software is being purchased across the nation. Tax payers
are using their credit cards to pay for the services of e-filing
as well. The only down side is that, while the software is
99% accurate, not everyone is as equally knowledgeable when
it come to knowing all possible deductions. This may mean
that a few benefits could be missed when it comes time for
your e-filing.
All in all, more people than ever are becoming comfortable
with the e-filing process. It’s fast, safe, secure,
and dependable. And, that just about the most anyone can hope
for when it comes to e-filing.
